Prescott Library holds Story Time every Thursdays at 11am, before the library opens, to optimize the environment for our Toddler patrons.

The Importance of Story Time

Children need Story Time to not only become familiar and comfortable with books, but also for the socialization time they get with their peers!

Actively exposing kids to books and language has social and educational advantages. Reading to your toddler helps lay the foundation for developing a love of reading independently, and helps prevent most reading problems that wouldn't be discovered until elementary school.

Emergent literacy skills are needed before kids can read on their own. These skills include:

  • having and using a large vocabulary of words

  • understanding that words are created from lots of small sounds (phonemic awareness)

  • understanding that the little marks on a page are letters and words

  • knowing the alphabet

Simply reading to your child can help build these skills, and story time is just one chance to expose them to books; but we also provide time to play and work on different motor skills with coloring, block play, puzzle boards, and clean up! Not to mention the great interaction with other toddlers they will get!

Join us on Thursdays at 11 am!

Story Time is suspended due to Construction until further notice.
